TikTok as an Employer Branding tool

„We are a real family,” „Everyone gets along well here,” „We are so nice.” These are the sentences we have heard in almost every first-round interview during job searching, and then these statements either prove to be true or not.

But how can you show potential candidates that you are really a workplace worth applying to (besides the basic conditions) because of the atmosphere and the company?

What would you say if I told you that TikTok is a perfect platform to show yourselves? Indeed, that site still considered trash by many plays a huge role in employer branding in 2024, which is why I strongly recommend that you start using TikTok as a business page consciously, yet 100%-honestly and by being yourselves!

If you have doubts about whether it's a good idea for a pastry shop, marketing agency, or even a logistics company to start a channel where you showcase not only the services and products but also the team, let's look at a specific example from the Vermis Production channel through.

 

Case study: how we created a popular agency TikTok channel?

In 2022, more and more of our clients wanted content on TikTok, so in order to learn how to use the platform well, we launched Vermis's own channel. At first, we spent hours brainstorming each piece of content:

  • who should be in it?
  • what should the text be?
  • from what angle should we film?
  • can the word "stupid" be said in the video?
  • what kind of content should we produce for TikTok at all?

We decided to only show ourselves: who we are, what we do, what a day looks like for us as marketing professionals. Then, around the sixth video, we tried a current trend: without any setup or practice, we filmed a 5-second video of one of our colleagues eating and making a grumpy face when someone interrupted him during his meal. The video reached nearly 40,000 people organically – and here we immediately got excited: we decided to create a very casual, very funny channel without any forced effort.

If someone goes to the Vermis TikTok channel today, they will encounter nearly 150 pieces of content that showcase us, the team members, the beauties of office life, typical cases and habits characteristic of (mainly white-collar) employees, presented in a humorous, sometimes obscene, and brutally honest style, with hundreds of thousands of views.

Nowadays, we can't go to a meeting (whether with existing or potential clients) without at least one person knowing our channel, but our greatest pride is that in the past year and a half, two of our colleagues joined us after finding us on TikTok.

Moreover, the best part is that we didn't even consciously look for them – both arrived with their carefully prepared resumes, knocking on our door: they wanted to join this team because they felt their personalities would perfectly fit our community based on our videos. And that's how it happened.

 

Importance of authenticity

I can confidently state: TikTok plays a very important role in employer branding, as you can excellently showcase yourselves to people and paint a real picture of yourselves for potential colleagues.

If you decide (and I hope you will) to start your own business channel, pay attention to the following:

  • always remain authentic – do not create content that is not true to you
  • dare to let yourselves go, as in 2024 you won't find the next team member by saying that you are nice – show that your community is truly special
  • do not be afraid of what competitors will say – at first, they will laugh at you, then they will take ideas from you for their next videos! 😉
