Why is the choice of the METU Executive MBA Digital Marketing program a good decision?

The answer is simple: because it is relevant.

You will often hear this word during the METU digital marketing training. Just like rationality. This alone is enough reason to choose this training if you are any kind of business decision-maker or want to be one. If you have 5 more minutes now, you can read more details below.

Marketing builds a bridge between economic actors, connecting production and consumption. Naturally, there is traffic back and forth on this bridge, in the form of information. Digital technology accelerates this traffic more than ever before. New knowledge is needed for management, as what we learned earlier may lose its validity or value.

I consider learning to be part of work; the time and money spent on self-development is a conscious investment in the future. I have been working for 25 years, during which I witnessed a technological explosion that has impacted the entire global economy, and it was a huge experience to work in the midst of it. We experimented a lot because noticeable and, of course, profitable campaigns were needed even amidst the constantly increasing marketing communication noise and constant changes. I have always relied heavily on my intuitions. And I believe that there can be a good solution to each marketing challenge. n There can be one good solution. n+1. I could only agree with that. But which one should we take on? What does it depend on? Yes, the good answer: the one that is relevant. And how can I judge which one is the most relevant?

This requires organizing the entire spectrum of digital and offline marketing tools. Not only the communication channels but also content production, audience and channel analysis, creative work, the economic interests of the actors, and the financial management and legal environment of it all. And all of these are changing; we cannot rely solely on the fundamentals learned 5-10-15 years ago in our work.

What to expect from the Metu training?

Practical knowledge.

In the METU vocational training, you will learn how to manage a competitive brand as a successful marketer in the 2020s, making responsible decisions towards achieving goals. For me, many things were familiar, as every subject was closely related to my daily work. And I also learned just as many new things and new perspectives. I can articulate the problem more precisely, I can extract and evaluate data faster, and I can make decisions more decisively. After fifteen years of media planning practice on the client side, I now only evaluate and fine-tune campaign plans. In this field, I encountered a completely new perspective in the subject, with such meticulous and precise planning methods that pulled me out of the routine and gave me new momentum. Every subject included practical work, calculations, planning, drawing, and brainstorming.

Our environment showed a change at the beginning of 2020 that no one expected. Those who did not have a digital footprint fell behind: students, teachers, employees forced into home office, as well as cultural institutions and commercial players alike. Many businesses could be saved through digital channels, collaboration could be maintained, and relationships with consumers and clients could be nurtured. In certain segments, sales soared, and many places reorganized their workflows. Several brands took advantage of the shock and quickly built up intense communication around it. Turning a disadvantage into an advantage – this training also prepares you for that.

Due to health protection restrictions, Saturday classes started more relaxed during the pandemic-affected semester, as we could save travel time. We tried almost every „live” platform and, overcoming some minor technical difficulties, we received adequately in-depth presentations in every subject. We were given a lot of written assignments, which required extensive research work – as a sort of warm-up for writing the thesis. I had a few short nights or long weekends because of this, but for example, on the train home from a business trip, I could comfortably work on my submissions. It was definitely worth the time investment.

Why should you continue learning, over and over again?

Because knowledge is your most important tool.

In Randi Zuckerberg's motivational bestseller, she wrote that we can only focus on a maximum of three out of five important things in a day. (Pick Three: You Can Have It All (Just Not Every Day)). Work, sleep, exercise, family, friends. Of course, nothing should be neglected; they can coexist in the calendar, but only on different days. Isn't that true?

My classmates came from all directions of the compass: creative artists, sales professionals, programmers, data-driven marketers, writers, recent graduates, and of course marketers from various industries. The group's composition is demographically diverse, with young people at the beginning of their careers, entrepreneurs, and middle-aged individuals seasoned in corporate hierarchies with families and children among us.

In terms of interest (see relevance), however, we absolutely resonated, and friendships and cohesion quickly developed. Well, we all chose work from the five important things as one that we indeed dedicate more time to, also because we want to develop professionally for effectiveness and success, and we seek to find space in the calendar for family, friends, and exercise, and if there's a little time left, we sometimes sleep more. Therefore, anyone who wants to start or continue their career competitively in a private business or as an employee of a company makes a reasonable decision by obtaining a degree in this field.

From whom is it worth learning digital marketing?

From those who practice it, moreover, well.

At METU, you learn from professionals who themselves face professional challenges in the field of digital marketing every day. They have some failures behind them, but also a lot of successes, and alongside the theoretical curriculum, you will hear about these as well, and you can learn much more from these practical stories.

You will hear specific examples and stories from the international market as well as from Hungarian brands. You can get to know the marketing problems of large corporations as well as those of small creative businesses, and how they overcame obstacles and how they can perform at a high level. At METU, you will learn where the pitfalls of social and automated marketing lie and what to pay attention to in your work to avoid them. You will learn to think flexibly, to ask many appropriate questions so that you can necessarily modify your planned campaign on time if market conditions require it. Law is also included, with the latest regulations governing the industry, and we will thoroughly cover financial planning and management, as a business cannot operate well without this knowledge.

The open and friendly style of the teachers encourages you to dare to ask questions and share your thoughts and inquiries. During the education, there is more practice alongside theory, and during homework (and otherwise), you can reach out to them anytime with your questions, and you can be sure that you will receive a very quick response. Your success is their success. The atmosphere in this circle is very positive. As the full spectrum of digital marketing unfolds, you will understand how necessary good cooperation among the various players is for performance.

You can find more information about the program on the METU website you will find, but you can read Csaba's article on the marketing secrets blog. The open day for the specialized training (2024. 08.29) here.
